Learning Log Adweek 37

MATH:  I did 30 minutes of Dreambox math a day.  I'm half way through 3rd grade math now.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I started a new book that's level 3.  I also did spelling.

SCIENCE:  I learned about volcanoes and earthquakes.  Sometimes earthquakes happen before a volcano explodes.

ENGINEERING:  I'm finishing up my last projects.  I'm almost done.

HISTORY:  I finished my map on the wall.  It's been fun learning about the states.

Learning Log Week 36

MATH:  I learned about angles like turning certain ways.  I did 30 minutes of Dreambox math every day.  I'm getting ahead in math.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I read 30 minutes a day.  I did spelling and ABC Mouse.

SCIENCE: My seeds from last week are growing.  The roots go down and the stem and leaves come up to the sun.

ENGINEERING: I've been working on some of my own stuff.  I'm almost done with this class.

HISTORY: I'm learning about the States.  I'm filling in my map.

Learning Log Week 35

MATH: I did 30 minutes of Dreambox math every day.  I'm doing 3rd grade math now and learning about fractions and multiplication.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  My favorite book is my super hero book.  I also did spelling and wrote in my journal.

SCIENCE:  We put seed in a bag with a wet paper towel and now the seed have sprouted.  The roots head down and the stem heads up.

ENGINEERING:  I worked on some of my own projects and turned in my favorite one.  I'm finishing up my last projects.

HISTORY:  I worked on my map of the states.  I'm filling in my map.

Learning Log Week 34

MATH:  I did Dreambox Math for 30 minutes a day.  I'm doing 3rd grade math now.  I was cutting stuff in half to do fractions and the highest I got to was 8ths.  If you're cutting fractions you need to make sure they're equal

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I did ABC mouse and Reading Eggs.  I also did Spelling and wrote in my journal.

SCIENCE:  I watched a video about space and planets.  There are many planets in just the one milky way.  Outside the milky way there are millions of galaxies.  We also let our butterflies go so they can find flowers.

ENGINEERING:  I've been working on some of my own projects.  It's fun to build.

HISTORY:  I practiced Stack the States.  I worked on my map.

Learning Log Week 33

MATH: I did Dreambox math.  I'm putting numbers together.  I also did some math worksheets.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I read 30 minutes a day.  I did Spelling.  I wrote in my journal.

SCIENCE: The butterflies some of them have already hatched out of their chrysalis and some of them are still working.  They start as eggs.  They turn caterpillars.  They they turn into a chrysalis, then a butterfly.  The butterfly lays eggs, and the life cycle goes on and on.

ENGINEERING: I built some of my own creations.  I'm still finishing up some projects too.

HISTORY: I'm working on my map.  I'm still learning about all the states.

Learning Log Week 32

MATH: I did Dreambox math 30 minutes a day.  I did finding new ways to pack stuff with adding and subtracting.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I did spelling.  I've been writing big words.  I've been reading books to my mom.  I've been writing in my journal.

SCIENCE: Our butterflies are hatching one by one.  Two hatched last night and one hatched today, and I hope the rest will hatch too.


ENGINEERING: My grandpa helped me build a helicopter and we were trying to make other projects, but we found out that we didn't have the right piece sadly.  But, we made the helicopter, but we were missing a gear.


HISTORY: I practiced Stack the States.  It's a game on my kindle.  It teaches you where the states go, what their nicknames are, what their flags are and any other information you need to know about the states.  I'm also working on my map of the states.

Learning Log Week 30-31

MATH:  I did Dreambox math every day.  I did double doubles.  Where you double a number and then you number you made and you keep on doubling it.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I've been reading some Dr. Seuss books.  I like them.  I also did spelling and writing in my journal.

SCIENCE: Plants will die if they're in darkness which I hate because I love plants.  You can dye water and then it will make the plant the color of the dye.


ENGINEERING: I'm working on some projects this weekend.  My grandpa is helping me.

HISTORY;  I'm filling in my map on my wall.  I learned about New York.  That's where the statue of liberty is.

Learning Log Week 29

MATH:  I played games on Dreambox math where you add.  I also did adding ones, tens and hundreds.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I did Spelling and wrote in my writing journal.

SCIENCE:  I did some Science on BrainPop Jr.  We were sick this week so we didn't do our normal science.

ENGINEERING:  I'm catching up on some assignments.  I like building stuff.

HISTORY:  I worked on my history map.  I learned about New Jersey and New Mexico.  Thomas Edison is from New Jersey.  He invented the light bulb.  In New Mexico there are huge caves with bats.

Learning Log Week 28

MATH:  I did Dreambox Math 30 minutes a day.  I also did some worksheets.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day and did ABC Mouse and Reading Eggs.  I did Spelling and wrote in my journal.  Sometimes I read outside on my swing set.

SCIENCE:  I learned about how you can put some things in the same group if they're both green like and apple and a tennis ball.  Or you can put foods together and toys in a different group.  Animals and plants are put in groups too.  I also learned about cells.

ENGINEERING:  I'm still catching up.  My dad is helping me do some new projects.

HISTORY:  I learned about Nevada and worked on my maps.  I played Stack the States.

Learning Log Week 27

MATH:  I did Dreambox math.  I've been doing 100s, 10s and 1s charts.  I also have been doing some adding and subtracting and I've done it in the 100s and I thing I'm getting better.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I have a new Iron Man book, and I also borrowed two books from the library.  One is to teach a dinosaur how to fly and one is about racing.  I also did spelling and wrote in my journal every day.

SCIENCE:  We made bread dough.  We put warm water in one and put cold water in the other one.  The cold one we put in the fridge.  It did not rise.  The warm on rose when we just left it out for awhile.  We made a loaf of bread with it.  The yeast likes it warm and dark.  You don't want to kill the yeast by getting it too warm so you just want to heat the water a little for the bread to rise.

ENGINEERING:  I'm working on some projects.  My dad is going to help me catch up.

HISTORY:  I learned about Montana and Nebraska.  Montana is a big state up north.  In the middle is Nebraska.

Learning Log Week 26

MATH:  I did Dreambox math 30 minutes a day.  I found a game called "Friendly Bucket"...you add up numbers in different ways to get the same answer.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I'm reading a book about Iron Man.  I read 30 minutes a day.  I did Spelling and wrote in my journal.

SCIENCE:  I learned about different taste buds.  Some foods are sweet, some are salty and some are neither like a raw potato.  These are my brothers doing their experiment learning about foods with starch.


I also learned about how you can mix glue and liquid starch and make stuff like playdoe that you can make a ball out of and it bounces.


ENGINEERING:  I'm working on some projects.  They're due so I need to catch up.

HISTORY:  I played a game called "Stack the States" where you memorize which states go where and facts about the states.  I learned about Missouri too.

Learning Log Week 25

MATH:  I did Dreambox math.  I did function machines mostly.  I really like it.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I got two new books in the mail today.  One is Star Wars and one is Iron Man.  They're level 2, and I'm doing really good with them.  I really like the Star Wars book.  I did spelling and writing in my journal.

SCIENCE:  I learned how you can mix food coloring.  We did green, orange, blue, and pink.  It mostly turned black, but once we grabbed some paper strips and put them in it became rainbow after we pulled it out.  You can mix colors together, and then you can also make it so it is hard to get it separated or you can make it so you can separate it easily.  It depends on what you mix and how you separate it.


ENGINEERING:  I'm working on some projects with my dad.  I need to turn in my next one.

HISTORY:  I learned about Mississippi.  It's at the bottom of the U.S.  I also learned about Michigan.  There are lakes around it.  I'm filling in my map on the wall.

Learning Log Week 24

MATH:  I did Dreambox math.  I started doing function machines adding numbers backwards and forwards.  I've been adding blocks to make them the same length and same number.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I did spelling and handwriting.  I wrote in my journal.  I did a craft with colored paper and shapes.

SCIENCE:  I learned about mixtures.  Some things mix together and some things don't.  Oil and water do not mix.  Water mixes with milk and juice and things kind of like water.  Oil mixes with butter or other greasy things.  If you add soap most of them mix together...even oil and water.  Soap is kind of like water and kind of like oil so it can dissolve both.


ENGINEERING:  I'm working on some projects with my dad.  I hope to be able to turn in my next project soon.

HISTORY:  I learned about some of the Eastern States.  Massachusetts is where the Mayflower ship landed with the pilgrims on it.

Learning Log Week 23

MATH: I did Dreambox math with 100s charts.  I also did worksheets with ones, tens and hundreds.  I also spelled out numbers.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I read 30 minutes a day.  I practiced sight words, spelling and handwriting.

SCIENCE: I learned about acids and bases.  We mixed some acids and bases and they bubbled.  Lemon juice is an acid and milk is a base.


ENGINEERING:  I worked on some of my own projects.  My dad is going to help me with the school assignments.

HISTORY: I played Stack the States.  I practiced learning about the States on my map.

Learning Log Week 22

MATH:  I did some worksheets with 100s charts.  I also did counting backwards this week, and it seems like it becomes easier the more I do it.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I've been reading 30 minutes a day.  I did spelling and handwriting.  I did ABC Mouse.  I wrote a story in my journal.

SCIENCE:  We tested different kinds of ingredients and found out what happened.  When we put all the ingredients it bubbled up.  We tried vinegar and baking soda...that bubbled up.  We tried lemon juice and milk...that made chunk in ti.

ENGINEERING:  I'm going to be working on some projects with my dad this weekend.  I have some projects that will be due soon.

HISTORY:  I learned about Kansas.  It's in the middle of the United States.  I also practiced learning the State on a game called "Stack the States."  I love that game.

Learning Log Week 21

MATH:  For Math I've been doing 100s charts and ones and tens and hundreds.  I re-group numbers.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I took my DIBELS test.  I did better this time.  I did spelling and handwriting.

SCIENCE:  We went to the Hogle zoo.  We learned about the different animals.  I liked seeing the lions laying around.  The seals were swimming around chasing each other.  I elephants ate hay from a really all thing hanging in the air.  They used their trunks to grab it.


ENGINEERING:  I made a project of my own this week.  Next week I'll start working on my next project that's coming up.

HISTORY:  I practiced learning about the United States.  I practiced with a map on my wall and a worksheet.

Learning Log Week 20

MATH:  For math I've been doing where you fix the problem like if you had 110 blocks and you were going to split them out into groups of 10.  I've been working on DreamBox.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I've been reading my Avengers book and other books.  I've been practicing sight words too.  I've been doing spelling and handwriting.

SCIENCE:  For Science we learned about atoms and molecules and how they fit together.  They have to follow rules.  We built molecules with toothpicks and marshmallows and then I built a house.

We also went to the dinosaur museum and learned about dinosaurs.



ENGINEERING:  I did my own project this week.  It's a screen and that move on wheels.


HISTORY:  I learned about Illinois and Indiana.  They are on the top part of the map.

Learning Log Week 19

MATH:  I did Dreambox math.  I've been doing the 100s chart.  I've been doing ones, tens and hundreds and re-grouping them.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read 30 minutes a day.  I've like the Avenger books because it has lots of Avengers and it's fun to learn about their powers.  I did Spelling and Handwriting.  I did Reading Eggs and ABC Mouse.

SCIENCE:  We looked at what kind of atoms are in a marshmallow and a cracker and we had to write down what we thought there was with the cracker or marshmallow.

ENGINEERING:  I've been working on some projects with my dad.  I'll be working on some more today.

HISTORY:  I learned about Idaho.  That's where my grandparents live.  I like to go there and discover new things that I have not seen before.  There are lots of potato fields.  I also like how Idaho makes a lot of potatoes in their fields.  I like being there.  I also learned about Hawaii.  Hawaii is not cold like Idaho.  Hawaii is a group of islands with palm trees.  It's warm there also.

Learning Log Week 16-18

MATH:
I did Dreambox math and some worksheets.  I'm doing input and output and hundreds charts.  I'm doing ones, tens and hundreds.  I also did lots of Study Island.  I worked on telling time, adding blocks, and graphs.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
I did Reading Eggs.  I read a super hero book that I got from the store.  It tells me all about super heroes like Spiderman and Iron Man and the New Team.  I did handwriting and spelling.  I did ABC Mouse.

SCIENCE:
I learned about forces, plants and energy.  I also did an experiment with my brothers and some friends.  I learned about how energy from a ball can hit the cards and send the baking soda to the vinegar.  It makes it bubbly.  Energy transfers from one thing to another.




ENGINEERING:
I made a sewing machine with my blocks.  It has a crank that controls the pin whenever you spin it.  I caught up on some projects with my dad.  I made a well and a moving bridge and lots of other projects too.

HISTORY:  I learned about Florida.  It grows oranges there.  Above Florida is Georgia.  They grow a lot of peaches there.  It's called the peach state.  It's hot down there.
